Djing with the Wii

by Andy Polaine on February 7, 2007

There’s been a whole lot going on about the Wiimote as an interface to pretty much everything. It’s very flexible, relatively cheap and easy to use and a few of my students are using them in projects.

It’s interesting to see the DJWiij site that Ian just posted. The thing that I found most illuminating wasn’t just the Wiij action, but the his comment at the end that you really need to show a visual so that people know what to do (i.e., dance, stop dancing, spin on your head). “It’s showbiz” as he says, which is very true. There’s a lot to learn in interactive/perfromance design from that.

I have to say as soon as I saw it, all I could think about was you and Nik on a stage in boiler suits…

Ha ha, yes, I had that feeling too.

If only we had had Wii’s back then it would have made our dancing so much… well, like dancing.

Sigh, the hardship of being ahead of our time.
