Whilst Googling around for some examples of Nintendo’s Game and Watch I came across the aptly-named Game and Watch site, which snapped me back to childhood memories straight away.
Fire (pictured above) was the first one we had in my family – my brother got it for a present I think. I spent hours playing it before then getting Parachute and then the classic Donkey Kong. Those first ones came out in 1980 and Donkey Kong in 1982. A reminder that the multi-screen idea has been around for quite some time and that good gameplay trumps fancy 3D graphics any day.
We still own them and they’re in a box somewhere, I should really dig them out.
